Cosmetic Dentistry

Everyone’s teeth develop some degree of dulling or discoloration as the mineral structure of adult teeth become more porous.   Also teeth can become stained due to cola, wine, coffee, tobacco, or some medications.  Two viable solutions with dramatic results are to use effective teeth-whitening procedures and/or to consider restorative porcelain veneers.

Cosmetic Dentistry Promotes Great Smiles and Bolsters a Sense of Well-Being and Confidence

Whitening is a safe way to restore natural tooth color for a stunning bright white smile.  For anyone wanting immediate results, the different options to whiten one’s teeth include the Zoom-whitening treatment or the specialized in-office bleaching procedure.  Both procedures are administered with the help of a trained dental assistant and each lasts about one hour.  Zoom-whitening involves a light-accelerated treatment to enhance the process of bleaching.  While the highly effective in-office procedure uses a high-concentration bleaching agent and protective gel that is carefully painted on the gums to lessen sensitivity.   For either treatment, the patient will be fitted with a customized model tray for later at-home use, as well as given a teeth whitening gel to enhance radiance. A veneer is a custom-made thin layer of restorative material (usually porcelain) placed over the visible surface of a tooth, either to protect a damaged or misaligned tooth or to improve aesthetics.  The veneer-layer is bonded to the front of the tooth and can change its color, shape, size, or length.  To prepare a tooth to receive a veneer, the tooth will be cleaned, polished, and etched to allow for a strong bonding process.   Of the multiple benefits, porcelain veneers require limited removal of the tooth structure, provide durability, resist stains, and offer longevity.   Porcelain veneers mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth while greatly improving smile appearance.

If veneers are right for you, Dr. Davies will make a plaster mold of your smile and will temporarily cement provisional restoration until custom fitted veneers arrive.  After a skilled artisan crafts your veneers by hand, Dr. Davies will remove the temporaries and permanently bond the restorations in place.
